About the project:
The building was of a portal frame type structure constructed of steel frame with mainly brick & block mortar in fills, single story building with high mezzanine floors. The roof was a steel frame structure cladded with asbestos sheeting. The front of there structure was to be retained as pert of the demolition as this is Grade 2 listed and will be incorporated within new development. The correct design and execution of temporary works is an essential element of risk prevention and mitigation premature collapse, BS 5975 provides recommendations and guidance on the procedural controls to be applied to all aspects of temporary works in the construction industry and on the design and specification. Removal of existing foundations and footings including shallow underground concrete tunnels and backfill with compacted crushed materials Installation of a pile mat for the construction works to commence allowing 650m across site.Project Challenges:
1. Network rail boundary BAPA pre-qualification.
2. Temporary works design & installation to retain the grade two listed building.
3. Protection of a live Sub station during part of the demolition phase in preparation for it being fully demolished after decommissioning.
